You know, it's a shame that Sonic Mania came and went like that. This game was so hyped for a while, and after it got released, I really haven't heard that much about it. I myself haven't gone back to collect all of the Chaos Emeralds, which is a shame, because I love to try to beat any Sonic games 100%.
What happened?
I thought this game brought back some great memories. The nostalgia was all there, such as bringing back classic zones such as the Chemical Plant Zone and Oil Ocean Zone (but fuck that zone). The special stages were a great add-in, and I love that it wasn't always Ro-butt-nik I was fighting against.
The best part was the second boss of Chemical Plant Zone and having Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine as a playable thing in this game... I was screaming with joy when I saw that.
The newer levels I liked, not so much Mirage Saloon Zone. Press Garden Zone was the best one for me out of the newer levels. And they all blended in so well that if you've never played a Sonic game in your life and picked up this gem, you wouldn't even notice.
Sonic Mania felt like a great comeback for Sonic to have, especially after all the failed 3D games that we've had in a while. I will never play them, they are not Sonic games, especially Sonic 06' where implied bestiality is present. That's not the Sonic I grew up with. There's some games that we've played in the past where entering the 3D world worked, and Sonic attempted that with Sonic 3D Blast and it was a horrible, horrible game. Great soundtrack, horrible game. I owned it as a kid, and I could never get past Rusty Ruin Zone based on how horrible the control felt. I truly believe that Sonic is a 2D kind of game only, and that's it.
But I would love to see more with this game. A DLC pack could do by adding more levels. I want to see something more with this game other than it was a hyped game that brought back memories for a lot of us old folks. This isn't how Sonic Mania should end, let's see if there's a chance that we could get more in the future and soon.
