Top 5 Scariest Moments... For Me

Admit it, once and a while we play something that gives us the creeps. Throughout my life, I've encountered a few things that scared the crap out of me while gaming. Some of these are pretty strange, but I'm going to share them because I feel like to.

#5
Dr. Salvador - Resident Evil 4

Believe it or not, this guy used to terrify me, not in the main story mode, but in Mercenaries. You would hear his chainsaw as he spawned, but for some unknown reason, I could never find this guy before he finds me and beheads me. Seriously, I would scream like a little baby because I'm getting further and further into the level and my run would end because this douche decides to ruin my fun by scaring the crap out of me.

When I encounter him during story mode, I still have the same feeling like I do in Mercenaries, however, it's very easy to avoid him because he's encountered in places where I can easily cheat my way to victory. Not to mention, he's always spawned in the same spot so it's not like you have to hunt this creature down. Mercenaries, you're just out in the open and he can literally appear wherever, and THAT freaks me out more. Not too scary but scary enough to make it to my list.

Playstation 2's Red Screen

Fuck this screen! I used to be creeped out by this red screen of death because of the eerie sound that would play whenever I placed a CD that had a measly little finger print on the back of the disc. I'm actually surprised to see how many people were just like me by being freaked out whenever this popped up. Seriously, look how creepy it is. You have a very pretty blue screen with red, blue and green lights flying around and giant glass cubes spinning, you think that it'll just go to the "Playstation 2" screen, right? WRONG! Instead, the blue colored background changes to a red colored mist with several glass cubes floating with an eerie sound that's supposed to act like a warning noise. They couldn't have made the warning sound a little... friendlier?

What in the world was Sony thinking by putting this as their message informing the player that there is "no" disc in the system? Yeah, I'm just going to turn off the system now because my Playstation scared me with an error message. Kay thanks for ruining my fun you noodges!

Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven - Tesshu's Game Over Screen
Skip to 1:30

Because of this particular game over screen, I can't stand looking at them now. I used to be okay with them until this game. Why? Just play it, they freaking zoom in on Tesshu's decapitated head. It's not the whole decapitation thing that made me scream so loud that I had to get up from the floor and run straight to my room with my fingers in my ears (yeah, I did that). The face that he's making just weirded me out. Not to mention, his is the only game over screen that's like this. Rikimaru and Ayame's game over screens showcases the moon with flowing petals in the wind and a snow covered forest. Tesshu's is zooming ever so closely to a decapitated head that's making a freaky face then panning out and showing us that his head's on display in front of an eerie looking fence.

Why was his so different from the other two? I have no freaking clue, and not to mention, Tenchu never had game over screens like his in the previous games either. So like I asked before, why was his different?

#2
Doom - The Ouch Face

You're probably looking at this and laughing because of how ridiculous this is. Yeah, well, I was four when I got creeped out by this face, so it's understandable. I used to have nightmares about this guy's face, second one from the right. That one popped up one day when I was playing Doom. I've never seen this face before, and of course I wouldn't because it's a "bug". I thought this face was bad, and at the time this occurred, I had no clue what caused it. I tried ever so hard avoiding getting this face again that I refused to play the game without inputting god mode on.

Years later, I came to peace with this face and realized how you would cause it to pop up and I stopped having nightmares as well.  Again, I was very little when I played this game. The demonic creatures that you fought never terrorized me, the gore and violence never terrorized me, the setting of Hell never terrorized me, hell not even the main boss never terrorized me. It was fucking Doomguy and his Ouch Face that freaked the crap out of me that causes me to be afraid of monitors and TV screens that are on the off position.

No joke, still terrified of that every now and then, usually when I'm home by myself and it's dark.

Sonic the Hedgehog - Drowning Music

This music would play, I would instantly reset the Sega because I refused to let Sonic drown. I never sprung towards something so fast in my life. One day, I decided that I would overcome the fear of this music and try to get Sonic out of trouble. Of course I'm in the Chemical Plant zone and at the part with the moving square platforms in the pink water. Did I accomplish freeing Sonic from the water?

NO!

Instead I made him drown, I drowned the poor little creature because I wasn't too fast enough. And of course, unlike most water levels, this one doesn't have bubbles for you to catch your breath. How would you when you're in chemicals anyways? But still, this music is terrifying! Everything about Sonic is so sweet, minus the whole spikes being left around in areas. The main character is adorable, the setting is amazing and beautiful and the music is fun to listen to. But when you're in the water and in there for a while, everything starts changing drastically. Water is Sonic's biggest enemy because it's the only thing that's literally slowing down his pace. You can't move as quickly and fluently because FUCK cartoon logic. Yeah, there are instances where you can save yourself with a bubble, but the bubbles are so scattered and they don't come as quickly as you'd like them to. So what's it going to be? Are you going to wait for a bubble to float up or are you going to try to find a way to get his head out of the water? Not to mention, every Sonic games HAS a water level because that's how these kinds of games always are.

The original games has it where this music is the devil himself. I heard this music played in the later games and they've softened it up. I guess they finally heard the cries of all the children that allowed Sonic to drown.

And that's my list of the 5 scariest moments in video games!
